This private park is steeped in Swedish and Scandinavian heritage. Purchased in 1924 to host a Swedish Midsummer celebration, the park continues this beloved tradition today—now recognized as the oldest ethnic festival in Illinois. Park rentals are available throughout the year.
The campground features charming historic cottages, including Swedish-style stugor (tiny houses). This cottage community offers a variety of events for park members and hosts two public events annually: Cottage Walks and the premier event, Cottages in the Woods.
The park is also the current home to the Viking ship. Friends of the Viking Ship host monthly tours, inviting visitors to experience this remarkable piece of living history from the 1893 Columbian Exposition.
It is a place where history, culture, and celebration come together year-round.
This private park is available for rental to corporations or private parties. The property has numerous soccer/athletic fields. The picnic grounds include: a small pavilion, stage, and a kitchen. The large pavilion is capable of hosting: concerts, and receptions. The park has the most beautiful setting for outdoor weddings in the Fox Valley! Good Templar Park is home to the International Organization of Good Templar's (IOGT/Movendi) national archive center.
